Easy Summer Crafts: Make a Sand Castle that Lasts
This is one of oureasy summer crafts for children who enjoy sculpting sand castles at the beach will love making a sand castle that doesn't get washed away with the tide. This craft is best for children who know how to sculpt sand castles beyond a mountain of sand or want to learn. Older children may be able to complete all the steps without help, but since there is cooking involved, be on hand to provide assistance and ensure safety. The recipe can be used to create sand castles free hand or with molds, whether they be purchased or made with household items.
Hello, Cupcake!: Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make
Supplies for this summer craft:
- 3 cups of beach, river or lake sand (or play sand purchased at a craft store, such as you would use for an indoor Zen garden). The finer the sand, the better.
- 1 1/2 cups of cornstarch.
- 1 1/2 cups of water (or just enough to mix everything).
- Small amount of fine glitter (optional).
- Large cooking pot (one you don't mind getting scratched up by the sand).
- Large spoon
- Plastic table cloth (like the picnic table ones from the dollar stores).
Directions
- Mix the ingredients together in the pot.
- Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
- Remove from stove and allow to cool.
- Scoop out onto plastic tablecloth.
- Sculpt your castle.*
- Allow to dry, and set up on display!
*For inspiration, check out the pictures of sand castles at Google Images, but also remember to start simple. You can find many sand castle sculpting tools online too such as shapers specifically designed to help you shape the stairs and other architecture. However, you probably have tools in your own home that will serve you well. Many common kitchen tools such as spatulas, butter knifes, popsicle sticks, etc. can be used to model your towers and turrets, staircases, etc. If using molds, coat first with a cooking oil spray.
Remember sand castle making takes practice. Have fun with this, and if you enjoy it, you can expand your art by searching online for sculpting specific elements of your castles. In most cases, the directions, tips and tools for the sand castles you make at the beach will work with your permanent castles. The kids will love this easy summer craft that last for more than just a few moments.
Fun Kids Crafts E-Book
Have you been searching the net for kid's crafts ideas for ever? I'm sure you feel frustrated by now because it feels as if you are wasting hours, hours you could have spent doing crafts with the kids. You definitely need a way to get hold of kid's crafts ideas faster and easier. I know exactly how you feel; we went through the same pain to get crafts to do with our little granddaughter Anabel, NO MORE!
Now there is a way you can stop all this and spend your time having fun with the kids actually doing the crafts. I have come across an e-book that has lots of fun and easy kid's crafts ideas for you to choose from. The name of the book is Fun Kids Crafts. The descriptions in this e-book are easy to follow and where it is necessary there are templates that you can print with ease. Most of the crafts can also be adjusted to suit your kid's level of development.
Fun kids crafts starts with a very good selection of Bible crafts. These crafts also include "Christian" crafts to teach the kids real "Christian" behavior. What I especially find handy is the pre-school craft that is also included in these bible crafts.
In the section with birthday gifts for dad, there is a really easy and fun craft that will be ideal for father's day. It boils down to "Dad, I'm nuts about you." Do have a look at it; even the little pre-schoolers will be able to do it with a little help. That is not all, there is still a whole category of father's day crafts that you'll love!
This only touches on all the great kids' crafts ideas you'll get in this e-book. Have a look at some of the other crafts available:
1. Easy Crafts:
