Pumpkin Patch Halloween Kid's Crafts

This Halloween kid's craft is one of our Halloween Kid's Crafts for children of all ages, from preschool and up.

The deliciously scented pumpkins can be made with any homemade play dough. We've provided a long time favorite recipe. It does involve cooking, so you or an older child accustomed to cooking should make the play dough.

Hello, Cupcake!: Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make

Homemade Play Dough Recipe For Your Halloween Kids Crafts

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 4 tsp cream of tartar
  • Pumpkin pie spice (2 tsp)
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • Orange food coloring

Directions:

  1. Pour water into a medium saucepan.
  2. Add food coloring, and stir.
  3. Then add the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring continually.
  5. Eventually the mixture will pull away from the sides of the pan and stick together into a large glob of play dough.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Allow to cool to a comfortable temperature for handling.
  8. Any left over play dough can be stored in a zip top bag and does not require refrigeration.

Prepare Tray:

While the play dough is cooling, cover a cookie sheet, plate or tray with an autumn colored gift-wrapping foil. Or, to resemble the soil of a real pumpkin patch you cover with crushed graham cracker crumbs. To crush the graham cracker crumbs, place a few graham crackers in a freezer bag and roll over the bag with a rolling pin until you have the texture you want.

Create the Pumpkins

To make the pumpkins, the children will need:

  • Orange play dough
  • Various candies (for facial features and stems)
  • Scissors (safety, round tipped scissors for younger ones)
  • Modeling tools (or improvised ones such as toothpicks, popsicles sticks, etc.) for older children who want to model the pumpkins' ridges and such.
  • Candy, such as black string licorice, candy corn and M&M's.

Directions:

  1. Form pumpkins with the play dough. Younger children may find it easier to decorate larger pumpkins (about the size of small tangerine) while older children can more easily make miniatures. Let the kids experiment and be prepared to make an extra batch of play dough!
  2. Add the facial features.

Here are a few ideas for your Halloween kids crafts pumpkin patch:

String licorice can be cut into pieces and used to shape facial features. If pressed gently, it will stick to the play dough. Depending on fine motor skills, the slender pieces of rope licorice may be difficult for younger children, so be prepared to offer alternatives or help.

Candy corn makes cute, ready made noses.

A wide eyed pumpkin could have M&M's for eyes, while a scary faced one might have candy corn with the points of the triangular pointing outwards.

Fruit strips can be cut into various shapes.

  • Add green or brown stems. These could be made from pipe cleaners, fruit leather, etc.

  • Arrange pumpkins on the tray.

There you have it – a pumpkin patch with personality and a delicious pumpkin pie aroma!

Fun Kids Crafts E-Book

Have you been searching the net for kid's crafts ideas for ever? I'm sure you feel frustrated by now because it feels as if you are wasting hours, hours you could have spent doing crafts with the kids. You definitely need a way to get hold of kid's crafts ideas faster and easier. I know exactly how you feel; we went through the same pain to get crafts to do with our little granddaughter Anabel, NO MORE!

Now there is a way you can stop all this and spend your time having fun with the kids actually doing the crafts. I have come across an e-book that has lots of fun and easy kid's crafts ideas for you to choose from. The name of the book is Fun Kids Crafts. The descriptions in this e-book are easy to follow and where it is necessary there are templates that you can print with ease. Most of the crafts can also be adjusted to suit your kid's level of development.

Fun kids crafts starts with a very good selection of Bible crafts. These crafts also include "Christian" crafts to teach the kids real "Christian" behavior. What I especially find handy is the pre-school craft that is also included in these bible crafts.

In the section with birthday gifts for dad, there is a really easy and fun craft that will be ideal for father's day. It boils down to "Dad, I'm nuts about you." Do have a look at it; even the little pre-schoolers will be able to do it with a little help. That is not all, there is still a whole category of father's day crafts that you'll love!

This only touches on all the great kids' crafts ideas you'll get in this e-book. Have a look at some of the other crafts available:

1. Easy Crafts:

Painting
Crafts using grass
Edible crafts
No glue crafts
----and many, many more

2. I've already mentioned the Father's day crafts

3. Fun crafts:
  • Using rocks
  • From different countries
  • Woodworking
  • Candles
  • Summer crafts
  • Winter crafts
  • ---to many to mention them all

4. Halloween crafts (I can't wait for Halloween so we can do these with our granddaughter)

5. Pre-school crafts

6. Thanksgiving crafts

7. Christmas crafts

8. Mother's day crafts

9. Valentine's day crafts

The list goes on and on, too long for me to mention here. Suffice to say I'll never be at a loss for crafts to do with my granddaughter again. Do yourself a favor, have a look at Fun Kids Crafts.
