Easy Kids Crafts, Free Kids Bible Crafts: Noah's Ark Mural

One of our easy kids crafts calling for teamwork, this Bible craft mural illustrates the Ark that Noah and his sons built and features the animals God sent to him to protect. A rainbow completes the mural, reminding children of God's promise.

Scripture Reference: Genesis Chapters 6-9

This is one of the fun easy kids crafts that the entire Sunday School class or homeschooling family/group can collaborate on and create together. Many kids Bible crafts feature Noah's Ark because it's not only a great story with

many lesson opportunities; it has the extra bonus of all those animals.

Because this floating zoo is a group project, planning ahead is especially important, especially when working with the K-2 bunch. In fact, it's a good idea to allow for more than one class to complete the Noah's Ark mural! If you're teaching the story, you may want to divide up the lesson so that the craft steps coincide with the part of the story covered that day.

Supplies

  • Roll of butcher paper
  • Crayons, poster paints and/or markers
  • Old shirts for children to wear if using paint
  • Elmer's glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Magazines with pictures of animals, coloring pages with animals, etc.
  • Tape
  • Large craft sticks (optional)

Gather the Animal Pictures

Children will be gluing pictures of the animals onto the ark mural they create, so have them bring in pictures of animals (magazines are a great source) ahead of time.

To create pairs of animals when only one animal picture was found, here are a few ideas:

  1. Photocopy the pictures children brought in and then let them color them.
  2. Find coloring pages featuring the same types of animals on the Internet and print out.
  3. Bring in stacks of magazines for children to use to complete their search.

You may also want to find pictures in magazines or online to depict Noah and his family.

Draw the Ark

Spread out the butcher paper on the floor and cut to the length you want for the mural. Tape it to the floor so it doesn't slide around. Then draw a simple picture of an ark so that it covers most of the paper, leaving room for a nice size rainbow above and water around the boat. Draw lots of windows for the animals, and perhaps even a plank to provide another place to display the animal pictures.

Directions

  1. Assign children various parts of the Ark to paint or color.
  2. Using glue sticks, children attach their animal pairs to the Ark.
  3. Add Noah and his family.
  4. Color or paint in the rainbow
  5. Color or paint blue waves around the Ark.
  6. Allow paint to dry.
  7. Hang up on the wall and enjoy!

Variation

Use large craft sticks to build the Ark on the mural, covering the picture you drew, except for the windows. The craft sticks may also have Bible memory verses written on them that relate to this story of obedience, faith and God's promise.
