craft is fun and easy to make. If Dad likes batik, he will absolutely love this.

Even if Dad isn't in to batik, he will treasure this shirt because his child made it. If you have more than one child, make him more shirts. After all, a father can never have enough T-shirts!

Supplies

Your Ad Here

2 cups of flour.

Measuring cup with a spout (quart sized).

Squeeze bottle with narrow tip.

Two plastic spray bottles.

Latex fabric paint in two of Dad's favorite colors.

T-shirt: Plain cotton and in white or a color that complements the paint colors but allows them to stand out. For example, if your paints are bright green and blue, a good color for the T-shirt (if not white) would be a light shade of green or blue.
Piece of Cardboard that can fit inside the shirt.

Directions

In a bowl, mix the flour with just enough water to make a thick paste. Stir until all of the lumps are gone.
Spoon your homemade paste into the squeeze bottle.
Place the piece of cardboard inside the shirt. This will prevent the paint from seeping through to the back of the shirt.
Practice making designs on paper with the squeeze bottle of paste. Here are some examples of designs. If you don't have one in mind yet, you might want to use one of these or maybe they will remind you of something that gives you an idea you love. Don't be afraid to use your imagination! The design could be:

A stick person drawing of you and Dad fishing or if you and Dad don't fish, another activity that you enjoy together.

A whimsical drawing of your family, including the family dog (or cat).

A design that you know your father likes; for example if he loves bowling, maybe a bowling ball and pins, or if Dad's environmentally conscious, a picture of the Earth with wording "Save our Planet."

Speaking of words, your design could be just words, like "World's

Greatest Dad," or something humorous like this French proverb: "A father is a banker provided by nature."

5. Once you have your design and have practiced, use a light pencil to draw it on the T-shirt (so you can erase if you need), and then trace over the pencil drawing with the paste. Keep in mind while drawing with the paste, that you're going to be spray painting the entire shirt and then peeling off the paste, which will allow the unpainted parts to show. This will be the design. So besides drawing the outline with the paste, add all of the details too.

6. Allow the paste to harden. It will harden more quickly if you set the T-shirt in the hot sun. Even in the sun, it will take a few hours to harden.

7. Fill each of the spray bottles with the latex fabric paint. Place the shirt on newspapers and spray over the design, using both colors so that they run together creating the batik design. Or you could spray the entire shirt. Allow it to dry, and then flip it over and spray the back.

8. After the paint dries, peel of the flour paste, wash the shirt with cold water and laundry soap, and dry.

Now, all that's left to do is wrap your custom made T shirt and watch the smile on Dad's face when he opens your Father's Day gift.
